Learning Movable Type (LMT) is a growing set of tutorials, presented in blog format, aimed at helping beginners to the Movable Type (MT) content management system. These tutorials are geared for those with a good understanding of HTML, a fair understanding of CSS, but who are not necessarily programmers or web designers.

Yes you can. You need to get the HTML code for the file. To get this information you need to go to the entry where you last used that file. In the entry area highlight the "Download File" and copy it. Create your new entry and in the body paste the download file information. This will create a link to the desired file.

You are not able to overwrite, or delete any file you upload.

If you want to upload the same file you must choose the local site path menu and type in a folder name - What ever you choose for a folder name will be automatically added to your blog folder. (ie: if you are uploading your timetable document try - using the folder name timetable2006)

Be sure to take note of what folders you create and where your files are stored.

Another option would be to rename the file so that you can upload it again.

Please note: You cannot makes changes to the file once it is uploaded.

If you need files deleted from your blog folder please call: 650-7700

If you are going to have an extrememly long posting you might want to consider using extended area. This area creates an automatic link to the information you post in the extended entry text box.

We have disabled this feature. If you would like to use this feature on your blog please contact SCCS @ 650-7700 and we would be happy to enable that feature.

Yes, but be sure to always choose a PRIMARY CATEGORY. Once you have chosen your primary category click on the "Assign Multiple Categories" link. Check off all the categories where you would like your entry to be posted.
If you don't choose a category you posting will only show on your blog main page. The blog's default settings is to show the most current 7 postings. Once the non-categorized entry is no longer one of the 7 most recent posting it will be moved into an archive file.
Yes! You can make as many changes as you want before rebuilding. The text box will appear each time you should rebuild your site. You can ignore this until you are done making all of your changes and do ONE final rebuild.
When you need to rebuild, click the Rebuild Site button in the Weblog Toolbar (Left side bar). A pop-up window will open giving you the choice of either rebuilding your entire site or only one of your archive types. Select the rebuild option which best suits the changes you have made to your content, and press the Rebuild button. Rebuilding pages for a specific archive type is naturally faster than rebuilding your entire site.

You should rebuild your site whenever the yellow text box tells you to do so.

This will happen if you delete/add categories or delete entries categories.

When you make changes that affect the display of your weblog, involving areas such as templates, category labels and so on, you will need to rebuild your pages to see these changes reflected on your public site. Rebuilding is the process of merging templates with weblog content to publish pages that visitors can view in their browsers

Please note: if you want to quick post on various computers, you will have to set it up on each of those computers.

If you are running Internet Explorer on Windows, you can install a QuickPost option into the context-sensitive right-click menu. Click on the "Add QuickPost to Windows right-click" menu link that was also generated while creating the QuickPost bookmarklet. Accept the browser prompt to "Open the File." You will then need to quit your browser and restart it before you are able to see the QuickPost link in the right-click menu.

If you would like to view screen shots and follow a simple tutorial of this process  please download the following PDF file.

Quickposting allows you to post to your blog  from anywhere on the web. When viewing a page that you want to post about, click the "QuickPost" bookmark to open a popup window with a special Movable Type editing window. From that window you can select a weblog, enter your post, and publish.

This is neat feature that helps you "quickpost" to your blog if you only have seconds to do so!

If your printable newsletter category does not show the current posting go back and check your entry to see if you chose the "newsletter" category.

If you chose the newsletter category check to see if you published the entry.

If you did not publish the entry be sure to rebuild the site when you are done.

If you did publish the entry and it is in the newsletter category, contact the Saskatoon Catholic Cyber School at 659-7700.
