Listen and Write is a new web tool that I think has a lot of potential for English Language Learners.

A user first chooses a text he/she wants to hear read to him/her. Many of the choices are from the Voice of America, and are both high-interest and accessible. Their levels of difficulty are also indicated.

Then the story is dictated to you, and you have to type it correctly. You can choose the speed of the reading and how often it's repeated. When you type only the correct letters actually show-up on the screen, and you can ask for hints.

Human Impact on Ecosystems

|

Saskatchewan!

...natural resources... oil... water... forestry... mining.... diamonds... lots of changes are taking place in this province. With change comes advantages and disadvantages affecting people, communities, ecosystems, & cultural beliefs to mention a few.

What changes are you interested in? What impact will this change have on rural and/or urban communities? What impact will change have on local and neighbouring ecosystems?

In groups, you will plan, research, write and analyze the Human Impact on an Ecosytem of your choice from TWO different perspectives. Your group's findings will be presented in wiki format, shared and published.

Information Literacy is the ability to locate, evaluate, and use information efficiently and effectively.  The Internet has a wide range of information.  The quality and purpose of the information spans the spectrum from  garbage to top notch and from expert to intentionally misleading.

Interactive Whiteboard Resources

Big Brown Envelope was set up to allow teachers to share their resources with others around the world. Teachers, and trainers, are continuously reinventing the wheel when it comes to teaching materials. This is often unnecessary since someone out there probably has already got something that meets the need. On this site we hope you will find useful materials to help with your classroom teaching.
