Please take a minute to check your property assessment notice to ensure you have correctly specified which school board should receive your property taxes. The notice, which was recently mailed out, tells you the assessed value of your property and whether the education portion of your property taxes goes to the public or Catholic school board in your community.
If you are Catholic and live within the boundaries of a Catholic school division, but your notice does not state you are a Separate School Supporter, you can switch your taxes by filling out a tax declaration form, available at your RM or town office or in Saskatoon, at City Hall and online at www.city.saskatoon.sk.ca (In the alphabetical directory on the homepage, click on "P" then look for the Property Tax heading and click on that. The form is near the bottom of the Property Tax page.)
Only people who are Catholic may pay their property taxes to the Catholic school board. Under provincial law, it is not a matter of choice, personal preference, where one works or where one's children attend or have attended school.
If you would like more information about any aspect of property tax declaration, you may contact Dr. Donald Lloyd, Superintendent, Administrative Services, Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools. Phone 659-7021 or email dlloyd@gscs.sk.ca You may also check the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools website (www.gscs.sk.ca) for more information.
We can do no great things, only small things with great love.
