The Story - Centered Curriculum
I am not sure about the curriculum but I love this statement...
School has to change. The world has changed radically in the last 100 years while academia has stayed the same. This state of affairs must end or students will be learning increasingly irrelevant material taught using ever-more-outdated methods.
Why did you decide to do cyber school? Part 16
I wanted to take an online course not necessarily because I wanted an online education, but because the specific course I wanted to take was not available to me in any other form besides online.
i had chossen this program because i enjoy math and i would be a head of my grade for next year. also so in high school i can get more credits
I think taking the math B30 course online will best fit my schedule and allow for optimum performance.
I decided to do online education because I am a gr.8 student but i want to do gr. 9 math, and you guys offered to program, so I signed up.
I could not fit all my desired courses into the regular school year.
I decided to do cyber school, because I like working at my own pace and at the same time, going beyond regular instruction in my class. I lke trying new things.
Because there were no class left that i could take in period 5.
To be able to learn school from home and to get a first period spare
so i could manage my time and my class wasn't offered this semester
To Upgrade my Math mark
I would like to get a head start on my grade nine studies.
So I could finish my math early and have more options in grade twelve.
Two of my older sisters did Cyber School Math. One struggled with it a little, and the other benefitted from it. She is now in grade nine and doing grade 11 math. I want to benefit from it like she did.
because I have to work to suppot my family. Also to finish my education at my own pase so I would actually be able to finish
I think the online course will better suite my lifestyle.
So I can learn at my own pace. This allows me to learn quicker and more effectivly.
I would really like to graduate highschool on time and to take a few online courses is the only way I will be able to graduate on time.
I decided to do online education because I have more courses that I would like to take than I have room for in my schedule.
I was over-exceding grade 8 math
I decicded to do an online education because I saw it as a good oppurtunity. I am also exceeding in grade 8 mathematics.
I chose this because i wanted to try something new and i think i might like it.

Why did you decide to take cyber school? Part 15
So in High School I could get time off in the afternoon to Figure Skate. It works better with my time.
I decided to try cyber school so that I could have more flexibility, work independently, learn some more computer skills and hopefully finish the course earlier than my other courses.
I decided to do online education because I wanted to have new opportunities later on. It would leave my schedual more open in later years.
To challange myself.
My teacher and parents want me to get ahead in math.
Because it would allow me to keep up with the grade tens that I worked towards being with. I had to do it on cyber school because it wouldn't fit in my schedule.
I was really just interested in learning new things about writing, not for credit or anything, just to learn something new

I decided to take an online class, because i knew that i would be able to manage my time wisely and complete the course on my time. Not a schedule and not only do it 5 days a week but 7.

cause my sister did it and she has a bunch of extra courses now. also i'm in ELO and i really like computers and i'm good at math.

I did it because my sister did it and they wanted me to do it too.

Failed a class but needed it to pass grade 12
It gives you more time to work on other things and you can do the work at home. It is also advanced so you get more school credits.

Why did you decide to do cyber school? Part fourteen
My teacher said that it would be a good learning experience. He thought i could handle the work load.
I decided to join cyber school because i have a part time job, and extracuricular activities and i'm not much of a morning person. I'd like to have my own time line during the day to do some schooling.
To earn the credits I need to graduate
I have a full time job. I tried upgrading in an actual high school. Ive been out of school for about a year and a half. I did not like the whole High School atmosphere. This way I can do it at my own pace. I like that.
because my teacher wants me to do grade 9 math
because I want this credit on line because i might fail it in class
hrough discussioon with my parents and high praise from my teacher we made the dicision to try the Saskatoon Catholic Cyber School.
I need the extra credits, and I work well with computers. I like the idea of taking classes online because I can work at my own pass and don't have to wait for assignments to be given to me.
So i could do another class next year
Becuase I thought that it would be a challenge for me, and I like a challenge, and it was a challenge for me so far.
So i can get in all my sciences and maths in time and it is a good opportunity
i wanted to see what it would be like, plus i really like computer stuff and i thought that it would be interseting to try this.

I decided to do online education becuase i think that i work better independently, and on my own time
I prefer to work independently, and this way I can be flexible with my time, and complete it in good time. There will be no rushing.
A great way to upgrade quickly, without having to sit in a classroom.
I have a full time job and I would like to finally get my grade 12 diploma and right now it is ideal for me to take some classes in class while I take some online. It is very difficult for me to attend a full school day when I have to work. Also I would like to get good grades and the plan is to eventually go to University, so pray for me. Also I am at a certain age and level of maturity where I do value getting an education and wish to fully pursue it at whatever cost.

Why did you decide to do cyber school? Part thirteen
I wanted to do online education because I want to take more courses in school. Also, I felt as if I was working at a faster pace than others.
I am a full-time student at the University of saskatchewan and did not take Chemistry 30 while I was in High School. It has turned out that I need it as a pre-requisite to take university level courses. I don't have time to attend a school to take this course so cyber school offers a great opportunity for me to do the course on my own time and still keep my schedule at the U of S.
So that I had the opportunity to get ahead on my grade 9 math, so that I could take additionnal classes in grade 9.
because i'm a univeristy student now.

Definitions: Web-courses
As he has discovered there is a great deal of overlap and confusion in the lexicon describing distance learning courses especially when technology is involved. In my mind, there are only 3 types of 'web courses':

i didnt have enough time to do a complete school semester within the building.so working online allows me to have a job and save money while doing my school work

It allows me to take all the required classes, as well as electives I enjoy.
I only have this 1 credit left for my university entrance requirements. Also this class can be done on a time schedule that is convenient for me.
I decided to do it because I relly wanted to try it out and it sounded fun. I also wanted to do it because it would then be easier to get my mandatory classes in high school. That way I can have more classes that I just want to try out.

I decided to do an online education because this is my last year and high school and my last chance to see what cyber school is all about. I have also heard such positive coments from friends at school.
Because I am here in Edmonton due to a family emergency. The curriculum here I have been told is different, and my parents thought it would be better for me to take online courses. They thought it would be easier for me to handle also, under the circumstances.
I thought it would be a good oppurtunity and something fun to expirence. I like to go ahead in things so this would be something I like doing and I like math.
I decided to try online education because i think i could do better by doing my work alone and work better at my own pace

Pastor Norton woke up Sunday morning and realizing it was an exceptionally beautiful and sunny early spring day, decided he just had to play golf. So... he told the Associate Pastor that he was feeling sick and persuaded him to give the sermon for him that day. As soon as the Associate Pastor left the room, Pastor Norton headed out of town to a golf course about forty miles away. This way he knew he wouldn't accidentally meet anyone he knew from his church. Setting up on the first tee, he was alone. After all, it was Sunday morning and everyone else was in church!
At about this time, Saint Peter leaned over to the Lord while looking down from the heavens and exclaimed, "You're not going to let him get away with this, are you?"
The Lord sighed, and said, "No, I guess not."
Just then Pastor Norton hit the ball and it shot straight towards the pin, dropping just short of it, rolled up and fell into the hole.

St. Peter was astonished. He looked at the Lord and asked, "Why did you let him do that?"

To get more experienced in Math
Because I thought i would be able to take more classes and more classes that i want to do.
I wanted to get ahead in math so that I can take extra classes in highschool.
I decided to do online education because both my older brother and sister had done it, and it seemed like a good thing to do.
I decided to do online education because I want to take grade nine math before high school.
Flexibility, also I do not want to go back to High School.
I wanted to get advanced in Math so i could have a "free space" in my high school schedual.
My teacher said that it would be a challenging thing for me and that I should try it.
So my schedule had more space so I could take classes for exta credit.
It offers some flexablilty in a very difficult second semester.
Many kids in my class were doing it and I thought, why not?

To suit my schedule and so I can do it on my own time and still get it done.
i needed another credit for university
It is an option at my school, and I am qualified for the program.
To get a better education, and to accelerate my high school career.
I'd like to have an elective class for grade 10, 11, or 12.
I decided to do online education because I am nomally good at mathematics and I wanted to do grade nine math early for the past two years.
To make time for homework and extra classes.
I am a very good independant learner. Also I play hockey competitively and I would like to be able to work around my clock more effectively.
Because I feel it is the most ideal thing for me. I have the time to take this online course, and I enjoying working on my own at my own pace!!!
It gives me a chance to do math at my own speed and on my own time. I get to learn as fast or slow as i would like and i don't have to wait for others to understand.

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".
In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where! more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.
Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

Because i thought it might be cool!
My teacher offered me the opportunity and I wanted credits for grade 9 math.
I wanted to do this because I thought it would be fun. I also decided to do it because it would occupy my computer time.
Because it looked fun and interesting.
I decided to do online education because this way I could work when I could and it would be a challenge to me.

I work better at history when i'm by myself.
I'm not very good at history and have always struggled with it in school. I heard that the new cyberschool history course was more fun/interesting and from what i found out about cyberschool I thought I'd be able to learn better and do better in the class by taking the course online.

Thoughts on online learning in K-12
Along with some colleagues, I toured around two different implementations of online learning in the K-12 system. In both cases, they have experienced substantial increases in the number of students that they serve. The growth in online learning among K-12 students is burgeoning and ready to cause some real changes in the way that we think of schools.
The first visit was to the Saskatoon Catholic Cyber School - thanks for the info, Darren. They have a comprehensive approach to online education, providing not only courses to students, but also some supports and even some ways to provide a sense of school community (some of these were student driven). Some (most - I’m not actually sure of the ratio) of their courses are managed through WebCT, but a substantial number of their resources were public and blog based. The use of blogs, RSS and aggregators were key elements of their communication and information dissemination plan.

So I could get a head start on Highschool math
It's flexible with my university class schedule, although it is more expensive then the other alternatives out there.
I decided to take online education because the math we were learning in Grade 8 was too easy. My teacher then offered cyber school as an option to me and I accepted.
My teacher said i should do it, and my friend was in it, so i thought i should expand my love for math.
because i have heard a lot of good things about it and I would like to do it for at least one class...also because then I do not have to go to the school in the afternoon for the 2nd semester and that would be way easier for me for a number of different reasons
I chose to do an online education because my teacher recomended it.
Because I feel less constricted than I do in a classroom, where there is usually a time crunch, however it isn't the same for cyberschool, I have more freedom with my time.
Gain more credits to make graduating easier
I decided to do online education because the grade eight math wasnt challenging me so my teacher told me to do this.
I am Currently on the Saskatchewan Alpine Ski Team and it works with my training.
I did because I was excelling the math program for grade eight and I needed to be challenged.

because i have done the grade eight math 2 times before, so my teacher decided to put me in it because i wouldnt stop complaining the math was to easy

schedule issues
i wanted to see what it was like and i had no chance of passing my math class so im trying for this
because your able to work around your own schedule.
It will be easier to work around my schedual. I am also taking classes at the U of S, but need this class to get into the college I want.
Seems a lot faster at my pace.
I need to complete my level 30 History so that i can graduate next year.
I decided to do online education because it is conveinent. I am waiting to start school again and this helps me because I dont sit around the house doing nothing, I am helping my schooling while i stay at home. It's a great oppourtunity.

I decided to do online education because I like the idea of being able to work on your own at your own pace. It would be a nice change from being in a classroom all the time.

I thought it would be a good choice to finish courses on my own time since I have a medical condition which is keeping me from school.

I decided to take an online education, because a teacher suggested it for me. And I wasn't doing very well in my History class. So i dropped that and took cyber school.
It helps me with schedueling my courses, because I am in fench emersion and in band so I don't have time to do some courses that I want.
I learn better individually then in a class. I cant seem to concentrate otherwise.
The secritaries at sudent services messed up my schedual, and I was forced to make several drastic schedual changes. I was forced to drop my Psychololy 20 class; a class I very much enjoyed and had a 92% average in, in order to fit the more importent Physics 20 class into cyber, and to not go insain over a seven class schedual. I am very dissapionted with the student services efforts and conduct. My schedualing error could have been caught at the beginning of the year. But, needless to say, it was not. So, here I am.

Why did you decide to take cyber school? Part four
I thought I should do this because, I wasn't understanding some of the math at school and I also am failing that class. So my friend told me about this and I thought it would be good because it could help me bring my grades up.
i realy need and exctra credit
to start over and do a better job.
I decided to do online education because I did not have time in my school time table to take history. Also I play sports and am gone alot so this would give me the oppoutunity to work at my own pace.
I need this credit to graduate and its convinent becuase i can wokr at me own pace

I decide to do this course because it will help me earn more credits.
I think i could do better cause i can go at my own pace and no one is pushing me.
So I have the flexibility to do my work whenever I have time to.
I am recovering from health problems, so instead of just wasting time at home,I decided to try a different approach at school and im starting to feel like it was an excellent idea.

Because I missed almost 2 months of school, I was really behind.

Why did you decide to do cyber school? Part 2
I decided to do online education because i have a really hard semester next semester so i thought i would get one hard class done now.
Be cause I finished all the math I needed to do in grade 8.
because my friends is really doing really well and i wanted to try somthing new
In my final semester of grade 12, I was seriously injured in a car accident. From this accident I have acquired a severe back injury, including a herniated disc. The days in which I can function are limited, as well I am currently on morphine and other medications which don't allow me to function to my full ability. Cyber School will allow me to work at my own pace, and allow me to take advantage of my 'good' days.
So I can work on my own time
becuse I am working and also I am 21 years old to go to High School
So I can Graduate at the time I'm suppose to and to learn by myself some what
i have to finish enough courses so i can graduate with my friends because i am leaving in grade12 to go play hockey and i cant take 5 classes.

I wasn't happy with my current English class and thought Cyber School might be a good option.
I have just recently moved back to Saskatoon, and have decided what I would like to do as a career, but I need to upgrade some courses before I am able to apply for university. I have such a busy work schedule that I felt this would be the best way for me to do this, as well as I remember when I was going to Holy Cross I did hear about cyber school and always wanted to try it out.

Why did you decide to do cyber education?
I chose a online education because there isn't Christian Ethics in my new school
I am pretty busy and I think this will help me do better in the class because I can manage my time better.
Ihad to switch maths so I had to drop a class. It was too late in the semester to begin a class at school so Cyber School seemed like a good option.
I did not have enough room in my schedule to do the Information Processing 10 course, so I decided to try it online.
Because i need my two math courses to be able to get into Commerce in the fall.
I needed more flexible hours.
I have trouble managing my time with math homework and other activities. I also have trouble with talking to everybody in my classroom.
It will be easyer for me because i have a very busy schedual.
So I would be able to free up a class for next semester. In which case I will take another elective.
The online education offers a credit for a class that I've been wanting to take, and it gives me the oppurtunity to do it in my own time.

Well first of all I was planning on talking Biology 20, that course wasn't happening at this moment in time. I wanted to finish it up and get a credit because I just recently switched schools. I was going to school in saskatoon at Walter Murray Collegiate. So I just took whatever was available. Hopefully I could be a great independent learner and succeed in this course.
Because it would work better for me and work.Plus people said that it's fun.

As a French Immersion sutdent, I don't get alot of electives. Cyber School allows us F.I. students to take the classes we need or electives we want to ease up our schedules.

So many choices, how do you choose?
Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, Photobucket, Digg, Moodle, Elgg, Drupal, WordPress, Joomla, Mambo, Boddington, SlideShare, Second Life, MediaWiki, TikiWiki….
Then there are considerations like; do you host yourself, or use a commercial web service? What about data ownership, do you care, does it matter? This recent video about Facebook is quite interesting.
