SCCS H1N1 Survey
We asked the students at the Saskatoon Catholic Cyber School what they thought of the H1N1. This is what they said...
Comments
- I think if people were more sanitary and aware of what was going on, this problem never would've became so extreme!
- I have done extensive research on the influenza of 1918 and I feel as though society is in that same position. We do not know what is causing the H1N1. I personally don't know if it is a virus or a disease or what it is. I am very concerned.
- I have a feeling that this whole H1N1 flu has been blown out of proportion. My Dad has had H1N1, one of my good friends and many other have had this flu and the symptoms and feelings are just as if they were to have any regular cold or flu. I think that the only people who are in serious danger are people who are not healthy and do not have a good immune system. If you take care of yourself and respect cleanliness, everyone should be fine.
- i think it is pretty stupid on how people get so caught up in everythig that is in the media, if a couple people got bird flu everyone would freak out and want to get vaccinated just because a couple people got it.
- I am counting down the days until I get H1N1 becuase if someone is going to get it is going to be me. I guarentee.
- I think everyone is overreacting quite a lot. My uncle had it, then my dad and I think we had it too. It's no joy ride, but neither is the common cold.
- I can't help but consider that the media has possibly created a frenzy. Epidemics/Pandemics are a natural part of life. Scientists are able to predict when we may be expecting pandemics by studying history. I do not dismiss the severity of H1N1 but I don't know that I feel as fearful as others. I do not know the amount of illness and death per capita but from my recollection it is not a huge number. I am sure our odds of being hit by a car and dyeing are greater than contracting H1N1 and it being fatal.
- I don't think it's anything to worry about, personally. My brother had H1N1, but I never got it.
- h1n1 might be dangerous but who cares!
- I think H1N1 poses a threat to those who are elderly, particularly immune deficient, and have respiratory complications that may make the influenza virus dangerous. It has also been shown that obesity, diabetes and heart failure will contribute to a more severe illness. However, for these people, the seasonal influenza virus poses a significant threat on its own, and many are hospitalized who become ill from it. I don't think the H1N1 2009 virus will be more vigilant but I think it will sicken many more people because of its status as a new virus.
- Fate has the final say...
- I think that it's overrated. H1N1 isn't any more deadly than the normal flu.
- What is H1N1?
- I think the idea of not shaking hands anymore to "stop the spread of H1N1" is ridiculous. Practice some basic personal hygiene and that alone should help stop the spread.
- more people die of the regular flu per year the media is just looking for something to focus your attention on
- Its just the flu... I don't see why people should worry lots. Every year in the fall and spring people get sick from the flu, they are just saiding this commen flu is now the H1N1. If you stay health you should be fine. As normal, old people and young children get the flu easier, and these are the people that are reported to have the H1N1.
- Doing simple things will help to stop its spread but people will still get it and no flu shot will prevent it.
- I do believe that H1N1 is something to be concerned about. If it gets out of hand many people could get sick quickly. To control the spread of H1N1 everyone will have to work together on keeping their immune systems strong and keep their hands clean to minimize the spreading.
- i think people should work extra hard on personal hygiene but i don't think people should go as extreme as not shaking hands during mass or taking out the holy water. if people want to stop doing those things then they can choose not to do them. i am personally not all that worried about it but i think people have to be careful and take care of their bodies so that they are more capable of fighting it off if they do get it. and i also think that if people are sick that they should stay at home so that other people don't get sick...
- It's a scary flu, and more ppl should wash their hands, get their shots.
- the flu is the flu
- everyone is just too hyped up about the H1N1 disease. it has killed way less people than the common cold. it's only treated so major because it is new.
- i think people should calm down.
- Interesting survey.
- I am a person who has had the H1N1 virus. It's a terrible virus but it's nothing to really be so concerned about. People die from the regular flu, this type of flu is just worse. It's just a sickness
- I'm not really to concerned about it, because I believe everything happens for a reason, or more so God can take something bad and turn it good. If God thinks it's time for me to see him, or just to get immunized I'll get it, but if he doesn't want me to get it, it won't happen. And that whole flu shot, well, my mom told me last time something like this happened, more people died from the shot then the actual sickness. So I figured, I'll just let God decided what he wants for me. :)
- I'm affraid of havin H1N1 because I have Athsma... And folks say that people with lung problems gut H1N1 way harder then others.... Joe Bro
- I think people with healthy immune systems should not be worried about H1N1. Even if they do get it then they won't die from it. People die from a regular flu so what makes this one so scary?
- I think as long as were aware of the problem we can keep it under control.
- I understand that H1N1 is a health risk, and that we definitely have to be a little more careful because of it, but I hate how the media is playing up the "we're gonna die" bit. It's a flu! It's not what we're used to, but it's still a flu. Wash your hands, cover your mouth when you sneeze, get the shot, and stay home if your sick!
- H1N1 I don't feel will become an epidemic of any kind. I think that it's just a one-time thing and it'll go back to being unheard of soon enough. Everyone who's getting the vaccine I think is just wasting their time and money.
- I think all the hype is stupid and ridiculous. People get so worked up sometimes about stuff that isn't serious. Sure it's bad but honestly there are worse things that a person can get. Everyone just needs to calm down and shut up about it already.
- nice quiz
- I think the H1N1 virus is a serious pandemic and that people need to help prevent it from spreading. The vaccine sounds nice, but how can someone trust a vaccine that has been created in only a few short months, most vaccines and medicines go to countless tests and screenings beofre ever being released for the public. I think that the vaccine has just as many risks when taken as opposed to not taking it and toughing out the H1N1 pandemic..
- I think people should just be more cautious and cleaner, and be more concered about themselves. It's also good to pass on the message as well.
- Pretty sure H1N1 is inevitable. It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when
- I think H1N1 is something we should be concerned about but not let it take away normal aspects of our lives.
- Its really to bad that this is going around and I hope that no one I know gets it
- I am not totally sure how severe the virus is getting but it does concern me and the range of people it is affecting.
- I don't think people should be so concerned about H1N1.
- I really dont think this will be a problem. Remember SARS a few years ago. That was susposed to be a big thing but it never was.
- You cant prevent this and the media is making this more of an issue than it needs to be more people have died from the normal flu than they have from this swine flu virus if your a healthy person and you trust your body to do its job then it will and you will be fine theres probably a ton of people who have had swine flu and never thought anything of it just thought it was a normal flu stayed home rested and got better on there own. Have a little faith!
- This was a boring quiz!
- My doctor told me that i came in contact with the H1N1 and i was really sick, I missed a month of school, and couldn't go to school till i got a note from my doctor that i wasn't going to spread it.
- I dont think that this infection is as serouse as the media and government are trying to make it seem.
- wash your hands and stay home if you are sick. cough and sneeze into your arm
- h1n1 is dangerous to those with comprimised amune systems, i have not gotten sick since march of last year. when i get sick or become comprimised, i will start to worry then
- I believe that if we pay close attention to the virus and proceed to take care of ourselves with checkups and immunizations than we shouldn't have to worry. In our modern day society we have the technology and medicine to cure these virus's and sickness.
- People are over reacting. We need to settle down, wash our hands but not go ver board.
- no big deal
- I think that people are too concerned about it. By washing your hands, it will help to prevent it a bit, but you can't wash your hands all the time. Bacteria also travels just by air, so by walking around you could probably get H1N1 as well. The only people who have died from it have been the elderly, kids, or those with weak immune systems. It's just like any other new flu out there, we just need to get immune to it.
- Scary
- i dont even know what is a h1n1?
- H1N1 is bad, we should stop it.
- My sister did a project on H1N1 and I feel we are making too big of a deal about it. It is an important issue but not necessarily to the exten we've taken it to.
- Don't know much about topic.
- If people really do not start taking this a bit seriously, than the virus is defiantly going to spread which could lead to something bad. All i want to get out there is for people to cautious and always wash their hands and take their vitamins haha
- I think H1N1 can be best prevented by people washing their hands after going out, staying home if they become sick, and limiting contact with large crowds, also keeping your immune system strong.
- i just think its not a big consern i am healthy and after people hace had the shot they got the H1N1 and died. so i dont want to get the shot
- the H1n1 flue is everywhere so we should not stop traveling becuase you could get it anywhere
- I believe that you can fight the disease only if you stay in the house for the first eight days. Also wash your hands all the time.
- This is very interesting that we would get a survey regarding H1N1. It seems that in the past few weeks society has been extremly concerned with H1N1.
- i would like to know how that got started and how come its so deadly to babys and older people but not the young ones....
- Find a Cure.
- The whole hand being related to it is over reacted. cleaning your hands and general hygiene overall is great, although is not the main spread of H1N1. Its just being in the general vacinity of someone infected & the risk of getting the flu that way. As for the travelling, its already here. why worry & let that keep you from going elsewhere. Also the flu shot id full of controversy right now, with bad side effects and even a death.
- bad flu
- More people have died from the common cold then h1n.Its the governments way of scarying people just like the government did with west nile, sars, and foot and mouth dieses ecetra. There is no reason people should be vaccinated with the h1n1 flu shot when it has not been proven to work. Its just like when a drug came out in the 70's for whomen to stop having morning sickness and ended up making there child deformed. who knows what the shot could do because it has not been proven to work or help the curccumstances.
- i think h1n1 is a bad virus. so to protect ourself we should get the shot. expecially health care workers and children iin school
- I think that as with any other illness we need to be informed, take what precautions we can, and not panic. Forewarned is forearmed, so get your flu shot, wash your hands and keep them away from your face, and stay home if you are sick.
- I think H1N1 is completely over-blown basically. It doesn't concern me too much. And I'm not interested in the vaccine, because it has not been around long enough.
- Isn't this just like the bird flu the other years? It seems each year they have a new name for the flu that is worse than the next.
- I'm traviling in 10 sleeps and i am scared
- I am not too concerned. As long as you do what you can and stay home when your sick, I think you will be alright.
- I understand that H1N1 is a big problem in today's world. I understand that it does cause deaths, but personally I think some people are overreacting. It's just a new type of flu, and I know the only reason I am getting the flu shot is because I will be traveling in February.

Great comments - very interesting, thanks for sharing.
There are other things out there you can take that wont surpress your immune system and thats what the vaccine does both h1n1 and reg flu. Look up and research Influenzinum 9c Its great I have started taking this and giving it to my family. I wont get my son the reg flu shot last time i did he ended up in the hospital a day after he got it, He stopped breathing on me. So i researched this and im taking it. Look it up people it may help.
I think that h1n1 flu is a conspiracy created the government. Many of others think that it was ment to eradicate people, but I think it was hyped by the media who were controlled by those international companies who were the ones that sold the vaccinations to various governments!
