Goals

This project was designed to incorporate the subject areas of Science, Computers, Language Arts and Art.  Teaching the unit through the use of technology was chosen to engage the students early in the school year.

Predicting Weather is a core Science unit from the curriculum.  Predicting weather has many concepts that are difficult for students to comprehend.  Through technology, we are able to explain these concepts and back them up with examples.  To reinforce acquired knowledge, a few experiments are also done.  Upon completion of the unit students will have a better understanding of how weather forms, changes, is predicted and affects us.  They will gain an understanding of how different elements of weather are measured, by what instruments and how to record this information.

Technology is used as a key component in this unit to enhance student learning.  Students will have the ability to research and record information from the internet into blogs, Web CT and on their own personal hard drive.  Typing skills will also be enhanced.  Students will also gain an understanding of how technology can be used in projects to support learning.

Throughout this unit, in Language Arts, students will work on grammatical skills such as spelling and sentence structure.  They will further develop their dictionary skills, organizational and research skills.

Artistic skills will be used in designing snowflakes, a mural and information entered into their blog.
